In any competitive game, you have to remove any and all input lag. That said, the game does come with a Lag, from “lag behind”, is a slang term for slow Internet speeds or Internet latency; Lag is sometimes due to a server problem, but more frequently due to the connection between client and server. No updates to consoles or controller. Non-host players get horrible input lag, visual stuttering, and from time-to-time the connection will drop altogether. So yes it has everything to do with lag. The main optimization that is not in Halo: Reach. These are massive lag spikes that take fps from to 10, but only when you move the mouse. Other players have also reported that Halo: Reach’s menu performance is sluggish, there is notable screen-tearing, v-sync isn’t performing as it should, and there is serious lag while playing the co-op campaign. Hopefully Industries gets these problems patched up quickly.

Halo’s PvP multiplayer always had pretty great network performance on consoles, all things considered. Sure, it could be laggy, and cheaters could use the standby buttons on their modems to rig games. But it worked well most of the time and shooting felt fair and responsive. In an era where console games didn’t have dedicated servers, Halo’s peer-to-peer code was about as good as it got. Until you played a mode like campaign or Firefight online, and then it could really go to shit.
I have vivid memories of trying to play Halo Reach’s Firefight mode online, and giving up in frustration when it was so laggy I could barely move. That’s why a few sentences in ‘s latest big Master Chief Collection progress report really caught my attention. Basically: They knew it was bad, and they’re fixing it with dedicated servers. Here’s some background on why campaign and Firefight could be so damn laggy.
Because those modes included enemy AI, the asynchronous code used in normal multiplayer wouldn’t work. That method keeps lag at a minimum, but is why you can occasionally get shot through a wall, as your client and the host disagree on what they’re seeing. It’s still a commonly used design.

You should be pretty close, but play a few extra games in multiplayer or Firefight Matchmaking to hit four-hundred. Hopefully, this will end up taking care of itself, however. What you will need to aim for is the gametypes Sniper Attack on the map Holdout in the Score Attack playlist. Now, Holdout has static Banshee spawns that will spawn a single Banshee every two and a half to four minutes. You need to make the game last as long as possible, kite around the last enemy if you must, to get all the spawns you can.

Reach is good, but ODST is on a whole other level. It’s a four-player co-op survival-fest with no equipment–just your wits, your weapons management skills, and silenced 2x scope pistol. Halo 3’s weapons are coming over to Firefight. This is a big, big deal that adds a new dimension of play. What could it be? This is also a big deal.
You always had to set up teams and invite people in order to play Firefight online with friends. Custom Firefight will also be a thing. Now the big question is whether or not gamers can keep the original ODST settings–no BR55HB, no wacky effects, etc–in online matchmaking, or if we’ll be stuck with the new features. Either way, this is a tremendously exciting time for hardcore Firefight fans like myself.
Players are going to be able to look forward to ODST’s Firefight which will include all of the legacy content, meaning all 10 maps, all of the classic settings, variations, and then some.
